If you are a regular reader you would have realised that last year I was picking up interest in patchwork. So I was reading a lot of magazines and blogs etc. I saw a competition in Quilters companion and decided to enter. I had obviously never ever been in a competition before and was excited.
Details
Quilters companion magazine
Theme: Outside my window
Hosts: Quilters guild of NSW
Size of quilt: 120cm x 150cm
Category: 25-35
I knew straight away after reading the theme of outside my window that I wanted to do a tree and a bird. I thought the rest would come to me.
So I made a hexagon background, EPP of course. I sort of green ground colours and clouds and sky colours. I then drew out a tree shape on so fusible. So I ironed my tree and my bird onto my background…. Ummm how do I actually sew this together? I used a zigzag stitch but I will pick a different stitch for my next project.
Once again I had trouble with the quilting. The day I started to quilt the machine started to eat my quilt or make birds nests out of the bobbin thread. But I worked on through, finished on the quilt, lint rolled it and sent it off.

I was so excited to see a picture of it on Facebook with other quilts (see below)
Then I got it back in the mail a few weeks after that in the same box. No comments or any feedback I was a bit disappointed but super proud of my quilt. It now hangs on the wall in out guest room. I have had lots of lovely compliments on that quilt and I feel happy every time I look at it.
One day I will enter a competition again. Hopefully, I will get some feedback but I will give myself more time to do the quilting next time!
